     Will County officials today gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new Public Safety Complex and mark an important milestone for the construction of several major capital projects over the next four to five years. The new home for the Sheriff's Office, 911 Dispatch Center and Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB) could open by the end of next year.

Will County offers residents spay/neuter discount for pets in October

     Will County residents who have their pets spayed or neutered at participating veterinary offices in October can receive a $40 county-sponsored discount.

     The discount applies for up to two animals per household and is exclusively for pet owners who live in Will County. More than 13,000 pets have been treated since the program originated in 2007.

Electronic courtroom offers paperless advantage

     Will County Chief Judge Richard Schoenstedt and Circuit Clerk Pamela J. McGuire introduced today a new “paperless courtroom of the future”, Courtroom 402.

     “The offices of the Chief Judge and the Circuit Clerk have been working on implementing this paperless courtroom of the future,” said Schoenstedt. “This new technology will help expedite cases and ensure proper records are kept for all court proceedings.”

     Will County’s Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) Collaborative will host its Annual Fall Forum from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m., on Friday, September 30, at Adventist Medical Center Bolingbrook, 500 Remington Blvd. in Bolingbrook.

   

Seventh rabid bat reported in Will County

Officials retrieved bat from New Lenox residence

     A seventh rabid bat was reportedly found in Will County on Sept. 16 in a New Lenox residence. Officials said a dog, living in the residence, killed the bat in the backyard. The residents used their hands to pull the bat out of the dog’s mouth and contacted the Will County Animal Control.

     The bat was picked up and tested positive for rabies on Sept. 19. The two dogs in the household are current on rabies vaccinations. The residents of the home, a husband and wife, have been advised to begin PEP treatment since both of them handled the rabid bat and had contact with the dog’s mouth to free the bat.

Will County receives Pet Disaster Relief Trailer from AKC organization

Will County is now equipped with a state-of-the-art AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer that will be available to respond to a disaster scene that needs assistance sheltering pets. 

AKC Pet Disaster Relief, a national program that is dedicated to keeping pets and their owners safe in the aftermath of natural or civil disasters, joined forces with local American Kennel Club dog clubs and dog lovers to present an emergency trailer to officials from Will County.
