Will County Executive Walsh to call special County Board meeting to address funding for critical Health Department mental health services

Will County Executive Larry Walsh has issued an Executive Order to convene a special meeting of the County Board.  This is one of only a few times he has used this authority to call a special County Board meeting. The purpose is to address an emergency funding request for the Health Department. The meeting is slated to immediately follow the May county board meeting on Thursday, May 19.

Will County Executive Larry Walsh said he is very disappointed with the action taken during the County Board’s Executive Committee yesterday. A request to extend emergency funding to the Health Department was ignored by a majority of committee members.

     “We are facing a real crisis in our health department,” Walsh said. “Because the State of Illinois owes our health department more than $2 million in funding, nine important programs are slated to be cut. These are programs that serve the most vulnerable residents of our county.”

Gertrude Hoover, a resident of Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County in Joliet, was feted by family and friends for her 100th birthday on March 26 at Sunny Hill.
