Job SummaryEnforces and applies laws and regulations of the Illinois Animal Control Act and Will County Animal Control Ordinances concerning animal bites and animal welfare. Prepares daily written reports and testifies at hearings as necessary. Apprehends, transports, and impounds animals that have bitten, are strays, injured or diseased. Must respond to daytime calls and assigned on call/afterhours duties to provide emergency services as required. This position is temporary and will not exceed 1,000 hours.
Minimum QualificationsQualified individuals will possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license and must maintain satisfactory driving record throughout employment. Animal handling and knowledge of animal behavior required. Minimum of one (1) year animal control experience required and one (1) year knowledge of animal behavior and law enforcement along with ability to handle potentially vicious or otherwise dangerous animals is required. Must pass a post offer physical evaluation, drug test, and background check prior to employment. Must be able to lift up to 100lbs. and stand or sit for several hours at a time. Upon employment, must accept rabies vaccination and develop a serum titer of greater than 1:16 against rabies. Must be skilled in operating a two-way portable radio, animal control service vehicle, catch poles, traps, and other tactical equipment. Must be able to operate and maintain tranquilizer guns and darts and provide the safe keeping and recording of usage of all controlled substances. Must be able to operate a personal computer and other modern office equipment.
Salary Range$25.00 per hour (Non-exempt) Under the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act (PLFAW) employees will earn one (1) hour of paid leave for every 40 hours worked. Paid leave will be available after 90 days of employment.
