The annual Will County Book Reuse and Recycling Event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday-Sunday, June 5-7, at Joliet Park District’s Pilcher Park Nature Center, 2501 Highland Park Drive.

Schools, libraries and members of the general public can bring any unwanted books for reuse and recycling, said Tim Anderson of the Will County Land Use Departments Resource Recovery and Energy Division. The books will be available to anyone attending the event free of charge. Categories include fiction, non-fiction, children’s, romance, hobby, travel, health and living, religion, textbooks, periodicals, magazines and cookbooks. 

Workforce Services Division of Will County has scheduled its June workshops for job seekers.

Standout Resumes will be offered at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 3. Attendees will learn the basics of creating a competitive resume and may then schedule one-on-one resume reviews with WSD staff.

The Mobile Workforce Center’s June schedule has been announced by the Workforce Services Division of Will County.

The mobile unit travels throughout Will County to help residents with resume development, cover letters and job applications. The workforce center contains 11 computer stations, internet access, and offers keyboarding lessons, as well as resume and job search assistance using online listings including jobs4people.org and Illinois workNet.

The Resource Recovery and Energy Division of the Will County Land Use Department will host its annual textile collection event Monday-Friday, May 11-15, at the Will County Office Building, 302 N. Chicago St. 

Gratitude for the care that residents receive at Sunny Hill Nursing Home and lessons learned about how the brain operates will benefit those with Alzheimer’s disease for years to come.

That gratitude is from the family of the late Richard Churnovic and KSKJ, the organization of which he and other Sunny Hill residents were members, said Danette Krieger, Sunny Hill’s Activity Director. The late Richard Tezak, also known as "Mr. Sunny Hill," was also a member of the fraternal organization.

Will County Sheriff’s deputies were trained to administer naloxone, a drug used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, on Thursday, April 23. Naloxone is sold under the brand name Narcan.  The training is part of the Will County HELPS (Heroin Education Leads to Preventative Solutions) initiative in the office of Will County Executive Larry Walsh.

     Participants will learn interviewing techniques at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in Successful Interviewing. Learn how to prepare for a job interview, be confident and make a positive impression. Attendees may schedule an individual, digitally recorded mock interview after completing the workshop. 

Just in time for spring cleaning, the Will County Land Use Department’s Resource Recovery and Energy Division will host a trio of one-day residential household hazardous waste collections.

The first, part of Recyclepalooza, will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Joliet Junior College, 2015 Houbolt Road. 

Captain Jeffery Coady, PsyD, Regional Administrator, U.S. Dept. of Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will present federal action strategies for reducing heroin and other drug overdose deaths at the 2015 HERO HELPS Community Forum, scheduled for Friday April 10th.
