The Will County Animal Protection Services ordinance prohibits any dog from running at large. It is the responsibility of the animal owner to make sure the dog remains on their property or else be under restraint.
When an officer apprehends and impounds a stray animal it is impounded at an animal shelter or other licensed holding facility. In order for the pet to be released, the owner must do the following:
1. Pay the pick-up charge.
2. Pay any incurred boarding expenses.
3. Present proof of current Rabies vaccination and registration.
If the animal is not currently vaccinated against Rabies, a pre-paid vaccination/registration voucher must be purchased upon release of the animal. Vaccination is to be given by any of the participating Veterinary facilities in Will County. The registration tag will be issued by the vaccinating facility.
** Will County does NOT accept personal checks for animal releases. We DO accept cash, money orders, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover Card.
Stray animals may be claimed by telephone as long as the above requirements are met and the charges are paid by credit or debit card.
