Who takes care of what roads?


Will County Division of Transportation

Will County Division of Transportation takes care of more than 620 lane miles of highway in Will County. There are more than 55 roads within WCDOT’s jurisdiction. Illinois Department of Transportation

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) takes care of State Highways as well as Federal Highways in Illinois. Roads under their jurisdiction within Will County include: Interstates 55, 57, 80 and U.S. Routes 6, 30, 45, 52 and IL Routes 1, 7, 43, 50, 53, 59, 102, 113, 126, 129, 171, 394.

Illinois Tollway

The Illinois Tollway is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operation of tollways in northern Illinois. Interstate 355 cuts through Will County form the north connecting to IDOT I-80. You can contact the Illinois Tollway at 630-241-6800, or visit the Illinois Tollway website.

Will County Municipalities

Will County Townships

Township roads are roads located outside of municipalities that are not otherwise designated as state or county highways. A township highway commissioner is an elected official who is responsible for the roads that are located within the boundaries of a particular township.
