Will County Community Mental Health Board (708 Board)

Purpose: The Community Mental Health Board is responsible for planning, coordinating, evaluating and allocating funds for mental health resources within Will County.

Composition: 405 ILCS 20/3a. Every governmental unit authorized to levy an annual tax under any of the provisions of this Act shall, before it may levy such tax, establish a 7 member community mental health board who shall administer this Act. Such board shall be appointed by the chairman of the governing body of a county [...] with the advice and consent of the governing body of such county [...]. Members of the community mental health board shall be residents of the government unit and, as nearly as possible, be representative of interested groups of the community such as local health departments, medical societies, local comprehensive health planning agencies, hospital boards, lay associations concerned with mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse, as well as the general public. Only one member shall be a member of the governing body. The chairman of the governing body may, upon the request of the community mental health board, appoint 2 additional members to the community mental health board. No member of the community mental health board may be a full-time or part-time employee of the Department of Human Services or a board member, employee or any other individual receiving compensation from any facility or service operating under contract to the board.

2026 Funding Announcement

On January 2, 2026 the Will County Community Mental Health Board will begin accepting applications for funding addressing early intervention, prevention, treatment, and/or recovery support services targeting the mental health, substance use, and/or intellectual/developmental disability needs of Will County residents.

Applications will be accepted through January 30, 2026. Please review the following NOFO for details regarding the grantapplication guidelines, eligibility requirements, strategic priorities for the 2026 funding cycle and submission information.

2025-2026 Grant Awards

The Will County Community Mental Health Board (WCCMHB) has announced the allocation of their 2025 annual grant awards, providing funding to 42 programs managed by 39 entities throughout the county. The funding will expand existing services, increasing access and care to residents throughout the county.

The WCCMHB aims to aid individuals in the enhancement, maintenance, and/or restoration of their mental health within the context of their environment. The Community Mental Health Act (405 ILCS 20/1) provides that a Community Mental Health Board will plan, fund, coordinate, and evaluate public services for prevention and treatment of persons with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use challenges locally.

Through the grant program, the board is committed to moving local mental health services towards a more equitable care system, resulting in optimal health and quality of life for all community members. Grants were awarded to organizations that empower individuals and families toward mental wellness and resilience; transform lives and systems through advocacy, planning and collaboration; provide education and awareness about mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse;
