Will County Book Event Promotes Reuse, Recycling, and Literacy

Will County's Resource Recovery and Energy Division hosted their annual Book Reuse and Recycling Event last week at the Joliet Park District's Pilcher Park Nature Center. The event welcomed over 1,800 residents who dropped off or picked up books for free.

The event promotes responsible reuse and recycling of books, saving over thousands of books from being sent to the landfill. Additionally, 22 schools and libraries dropped off books for reuse. Over 80,000 books found new homes, with 10,000 books being shipped for recyling following the event.

The event also helps promote literacy and book ownership through a partnership with Bernie's Book Bank, which collected 2,270 children’s books from the event that will be gifted to students in schools and early learning programs throughout Will County.

Next year's Book Reuse and Recycling Event will be held on May 30, 2025 - June 1, 2025.
