County’s job board offers record number of opportunities for job seekers

JOLIET -- It has been a busy time at Workforce Services Division of Will County as a record number of job opportunities have been posted on WSD’s job board.

“It’s a very busy time right now,” said Scott Kettman, Business Services/Special Projects Supervisor at WSD. “Which is an awesome thing for job seekers.”

During the last full week in September, the agency’s job board hit a record number of postings with the number of listings hovering around 250-plus. “Many postings need multiple people,” Kettman said. “Some postings can mean 100 open positions.”

On Monday, Sept. 29, there were 243 job postings representing more than 2,700 positions. Prior to September, the high was 145 job postings.

“We have everything from entry level jobs to highly skilled jobs,” he said. There are also a lot of seasonal positions becoming available, which can sometimes lead to permanent jobs.

Most of the jobs are in Will County, but some are in bordering counties in areas where residents would travel for employment.

“We’ve been working hard on the job board,” he said. “It’s been growing by leaps and bounds.”

The job board listings can be searched electronically by job title, industry, work type, location, and application deadline at www.jobs4people.org.

“Job seekers can look at opportunities from the comfort of their own home,” said Kettmen. They can “like” WSD on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter and have new job postings sent directly to their news feeds. The listings can also be forwarded to friends.

The service helps both residents looking for work and businesses looking for people to fill jobs. “Our goal is to make the match.”

Information about the department’s other programs, such as the Mobile Workforce Center and workshops, may also be found at www.jobs4people.org. WSD is led by Administrative Manager Susan Flessner and is under Will County Executive Larry Walsh’s office.
