Water Bill Relief Fair to be Held in University Park
Event will help residents apply for state assistance to pay for water bills
UNIVERSITY PARK – Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant is partnering with the Will County Center for Community Concerns (WCCCC) and State Senator Patrick Joyce (D-40) to host an event aimed at assisting residents apply for water bill payment relief. The event will be held Saturday, March 12, from 9:00 a.m. until noon, University Park Village Hall, 90 Towncenter Drive, University Park.
“I think it is important for my office to coordinate an effort to help those in need of assistance with their water bills,” said County Executive Bertino-Tarrant. “This event will help simplify the process and help residents identify their eligibility. I appreciate Trustee Jenkins reaching out to address this need.”
Staff from the WCCCC will be on-site to help residents determine if they are eligible to apply for state funding support through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and assist them with their application. Through LIHEAP, customers may receive a benefit up to $1,500 to cover disconnection, imminent disconnection, late fees, and past due balances.
“I invite all Will County residents who are unsure if they are eligible for assistance to attend the event and engage with our staff,” said Kris White, WCCCC Executive Director. “We will work with residents to identify what assistance might be available.”
Applicants may be asked to present their water and/or wastewater bill, along with the following if they have not already applied for LIHEAP assistance: Proof of income for 30 days, Social Security numbers for all household members
“As people continue to recover from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, including lost or reduced wages, it is more important than ever for the state to offer as much assistance as possible,” Senator Joyce said.
