Will County Resource Recovery and Energy Division’s annual book recycling event to be June 2-4

JOLIET – Looking for a good bedtime read? Maybe bone up on some history? Or perhaps peruse a cookbook to inspire some new meals?

The Will County Resource Recovery and Energy Division of the Land Use Department has just the thing for readers of all ages and those searching for books of all genres. Its annual book event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday-Sunday, June 2-4, at Pilcher Park Nature Center, 2501 Highland Drive. The event is co-sponsored by the Joliet Park District.

    Will County Executive Larry Walsh said, “The goal of this annual event is twofold – it promotes literacy and keeps thousands of books out of our landfill.

    “Each of those purposes is valuable on its own, but together it is an extra boon to Will County. And, to top it off, the event is free to both those who want books and those who wish to donate books.”

Schools, libraries and members of the general public can bring unwanted books to the event for reuse and recycling, as well.

All genres of hardcover and paperback books will be accepted for reuse and recycling. Categories include fiction, non-fiction, children’s, romance, hobby, travel, health and living, religion, textbooks, cookbooks and periodicals. Magazines also will be collected and shared.

Books that are not taken will be recycled at the three-day event’s conclusion.
