Senator McGuire Reviews Signed Judicial Facilities Bill
As McGuire reminded us, it gives the Will County Board the option to adjust a Judicial Facilities Fee, which would give the Will County Board the option of whether or not to impose a fee against those who use the courthouse for civil or criminal trials. McGuire also told 1340 WJOL that between $1.5 to $2 million annually could be raised through this new courthouse fee, with hopes that it would assist in the building of a new courthouse. He said that a new courthouse is needed for many reasons including saftey and longevity. Sen. McGuire worked on HB 5889 in conjuction with State Rep. Larry Walsh Jr. No word on the when the Will County Board will take up this new proposal. A new courthouse is expected to be built at the First Midwest Bank Building at 50 Jefferson Street, which was purchased last year by the county. The cost of a new courthouse is expected to be between $150 and $200 million. (WJOL, this is the entire item)
