Slammers, City of Joliet Join Will County in Water Conservation Event at Duly Stadium
The Joliet Slammers partnered with Will County Green and the City of Joliet to host a Water Conservation Night at their home game at Duly Health and Care Field in Joliet on June 13, 2023.
Attendees were able to learn some ways to save water, such as:
- Installing an aerator on your sink faucets to improve water pressure while reducing water use;
- Turning the water off while brushing your teeth, potentially saving thousands of gallons of water each year; and
- Only running the dishwasher and clothes washer when full.
In addition to Will County and Joliet, the American Water Works Association, Conservation Foundation, and Home Depot were also on hand with water-saving information and other giveaways for attendees at their booth. Signing a “water conservation pledge” allowed residents to enter a raffle for a rain barrel or WaterSense-labeled efficiency tools.
Dave Hartke, Director of the Will County Land Use Department’s Resource Recovery and Energy Division said, “This was a good opportunity to learn about water conservation, which is an important issue for all of us, and have some family fun at the same time.”
In addition to tips and information provided at the ballpark, The American Water Works Association had its mascots on hand to entertain the kids with their antics.
“We hope through our continued Public Outreach Education we can provide residents with the knowledge of the new water source and the tools to conserve water,” said Ann Grooms from the City of Joliet.
