Will County Animal Control Joins Chicagoland Humane Coalition

Will County’s Animal Control Department has joined the Chicagoland Humane Coalition, a collaborative organization working to addressing pressing animal welfare issues in the region. Will County was invited to join the coalition due to its ongoing efforts to take a more proactive approach to animal services and provide resources to local pet owners.

“We are honored to join the Chicagoland Humane Coalition as only the second county animal control department in the region,” said Will County Animal Control Administrator Anna Payton. “In addition to utilizing the resources and networking opportunities from other organizations in the coalition already, I am really looking forward to sharing my own expertise in animal welfare initiatives with the rest of the group.”

Will County is the second county animal care and services department to join the coalition after DuPage County. Leadership of the coalition invited the department to join due to the various steps taken at Will County Animal Control to move towards a more proactive approach to animal care and services. These steps include a shift in direction to support pet owners and to provide resources that help keep animals in their homes.

“Joining the coalition will support our Animal Control department as they work to strengthen our programs and services,” said Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant. “This will be an excellent opportunity to collaborate with experts throughout the region on how we can provide a more modern animal care system and help local residents in keeping their pets safe and at home.”

Membership in the Chicagoland Humane Coalition allows Will County’s animal care specialists access to important training and educational resources provided through member organizations. It also allows them to access up-to-date educational resources, comparative research, peer-to-peer mentoring, and collaborative opportunities.
