November holiday closings set for electronic recycling site

WILL COUNTY – Will County’s recycling partner in Lockport will be closed two days in November in observance of Veterans Day and Thanksgiving weekend.

The Lockport Public Works, which collects items from 6 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, will be closed on Nov. 11 and Nov. 25. The facility is at 17112 Prime Blvd.

The county’s other recycling partners are not affected by the November holidays.

Marta Keane, Recycling Program Specialist and Green Business Relations Coordinator for the Land Use Department’s Resource Recovery and Energy Division, said that with the recent addition of a site in Joliet the county has five electronic recycling partners.

The Joliet site, 57 W. Marion St., opened Oct. 25. It will be open for two hours from 5 to 7 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month.

The other three sites are at New Lenox Township, Peotone Police Department and Romeoville Public Works.

In New Lenox Township, 1100 S. Cedar Road, New Lenox, electronics are collected from 5 to 7 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

The Peotone Police Department, 208 E. Main St., offers collection services from 5 to 7 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays of the month.

Romeoville Public Works, 615 Anderson Drive, holds its collections from 5 to 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of each month.  

Keane said residents are limited to two televisions per car and must provide identification proving they live in Will County. All of the sites will be closed for holidays that fall on their collection dates.

“DuPage, Kane and parts of Cook County are charging their residents $25 to $35 per television and CRT monitor,” said Keane. “We deeply appreciate our residents’ and communities’ commitment to making electronic recycling work as intended by Illinois law.”

In September, the county sponsored a one-day event. That collection helped bring the county’s total to 1.5 million pounds of electronics collected without any charge to residents, Keane said.  An additional one-day collection will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Saturday, Nov. 12, at Braidwood High School Household Hazardous Waste materials will be collected along with electronics.
