Will County Emergency Management Agency Hosts Inaugural Public Preparedness Workshop

The Will County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) hosted their inaugural public preparedness workshop on March 9 at Joliet Junior College, aimed at increasing awareness about emergency preparedness. The workshop is part of Will County EMA’s efforts to provide residents with increased knowledge and training about how to prepare for and respond to disasters. 

“Increasing disaster preparedness awareness helps create safter outcomes during any emergency situation,” said Will County EMA Director Allison Anderson. “Our agency participates in several educational events throughout the year, but this is our first comprehensive workshop for individuals and families. I’m thankful for everyone who attended and am looking forward to hosting it again in the future.” 

The “When Seconds Matter - Will County Public Preparedness Workshop” attracted nearly 100 residents. Attendees received training on life-saving skills, such as Stop the Bleed and CPR, and other hands-on preparedness topics. Presenters shared information about timely public safety topics, such as assessing potential hazards, safeguarding against identity theft, and preparing for severe weather events.

The workshop also featured a half-day session for families with school-age children that engaged participants in hands-only CPR training, tips for what to do when lost, and walk-throughs on how to properly shelter during thunderstorms.

“I appreciate the efforts of Will County EMA in going above and beyond in keeping the public prepared,” said Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant. “Saturday’s workshop provided valuable insights, planning information, and helpful safety tips for attendees of all ages.”
