Will County's Book Reuse and Recycling Event Returns to Joliet's Pilcher Park Nature Center

The Will County Resource Recovery and Energy (RRE) Division is set to host its annual three-day Book Reuse and Recycling event Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the Pilcher Park Nature Center, 2501 Highland Park Dr, Joliet. The book exchange is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily during the weekend event.

The annual event provides thousands of free books to attendees, saving them from being from going unused or sent to the landfill. Books that are not reused and taken home from the event will be shipped for recycling at the end of the three-day event. Categories include fiction, non-fiction, children’s, romance, hobby, travel, health and living, religion, textbooks, periodicals, and cookbooks.

Last year’s event saw over 1,800 attendees stop by dropping off books or browsing the selection of books. Over 80,000 books found new homes, with 10,000 books being shipped for recycling following the event.

Schools, libraries, and individuals can bring unused and unwanted books for reuse and recycling. Hardcover and paperback books will be accepted and shared for free to attendees. Organizations wishing to schedule a drop off can call (815) 727-8834 and arrange an appointment to drop off large quantities of books. Large drop offs are only accepted Tuesday through Thursday before the event is open to the public.
