Workforce Center releases August schedule

JOLIET – The Workforce Center of Will County will return to in-person workshops for job seekers in August.

Basic Microsoft Excel will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4.  Attendees will learn the basics of Excel and how to navigate its many features.

Standout Resume Workshop will be offered at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5. Learn the basics of creating a competitive resume and cover letter. Individual resume reviews are available upon request.

Successful Interviewing Workshop will be offered at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9. Job seekers will learn to prepare for a job interview, be confident and ready to make a good impression. Individually recorded mock interviews are available upon workshop completion.

Microsoft Word will be offered will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10. Learn how to use Word to create a professional looking resume and cover letter.

Transferable Skills Workshop will teach how to identify and use current skills to transition to a new job or career at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13.

Attendees will learn about video conferencing at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17. Learn technology, tools and best practices when conducting virtual meetings.  

Microsoft PowerPoint will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18. Attendees will learn the basics to advance their Microsoft skills and create a professional presentation.

Master Your Job Search Workshop will be offered at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23. A review of basic job search techniques, including networking, how to use the internet to conduct a job search, and salary negotiation will be covered.

Networking Tools for Today’s Job Market will be offered at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26. Job seekers will be taught how to create and use job search networking business cards. Learn about social media outlets used in job searches.

LinkedIn Lab – Maximize Your Profile is on tap for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31.  Learn how to make the most of a basic LinkedIn account with this hands-on lab where participants will review LinkedIn Features and best practices to maximize participants’ profiles in success in finding new jobs.

All workshops are held at Workforce Center of Will County, 2400 Glenwood Ave.

Also available are adult education services through Joliet Junior College Department of Adult Education and Literacy provides English as a Second Language classes, basic skill development classes, High School Equivalency (GED) and volunteer tutor program as well as access to other college classes. Career scholarships are available to Will County residents who meet eligibility guidelines and are interested in training for in-demand occupations. To complete the orientation session, go to www.job4people.org, select job seekers, then training and career scholarships.  Watch the entire industry orientation video/slides and then follow the steps at the end.

On the Job Training orientation will be offered at 10 a.m. Mondays, Aug. 9, 16, 23 and 30. It is available to Will County residents interested in learning new skills on the job. The OJT sessions are available in-person or virtually. Contact Tiana Griffin at tiana.griffin@eesforjobs.com.

WCWC will host a resource fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3. Also, there is a Job Fair In-A-Bag from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday. WCWC will also participate in a job fair in Romeoville from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center, 55 Phelps Ave. Bring a resume and meet with businesses that are hiring.
