Will County EMA to Host 3rd Annual “When Seconds Matter” Public Preparedness Workshop

Free March workshop will be hosted in Braidwood

The Will County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) will host their “When Seconds Matter: Public Preparedness Workshop” on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Reed-Custer High School in Braidwood. The free community event is designed to help residents stay safe, informed, and prepared for emergencies and disasters of all kinds.

Exhibits will open at 8:30 a.m., with presentations beginning at 9:00 a.m. Advance registration is required at www.willcountyema.org/workshop.

“When seconds matter, being informed and prepared can make all the difference,” said Will County EMA Director Allison Anderson. “This workshop empowers individuals and families with practical knowledge they can use immediately to protect themselves and support their communities during emergencies and disasters.”

This year’s workshop will feature expert-led presentations on severe weather preparedness, nuclear readiness, and how community awareness and early action can help prevent acts of targeted violence. Attendees will gain actionable steps they can take before, during, and after emergencies. The workshop’s content is focused on ages 12 and up.

The event will also include informational exhibits and resources from local and regional partners dedicated to strengthening community resilience across Will County.

“These workshops have been very effective at connecting residents with subject-matter experts on public safety and preparedness,” said Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant. “Prepared communities are stronger, safer communities.”

Space is limited and registration is required. Residents can sign up at www.willcountyema.org/workshop.
