Will County Received $28.4 Million in Rental Assistance Applications from Landlords and Tenants

NEXT APPLICATION PHASE SET TO OPEN JUNE 28

JOLIET – Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant announced today that 2,607 completed applications totaling $28,469,349 in rental assistance have been received through the Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP) during the first phase of the relief initiative.

“Will County has been working hard to provide families and landlords relief from the effects of the pandemic,” said Bertino-Tarrant. “The response by landlords during the first phase of the relief roll out for rental assistance demonstrates the need to help keep families in homes and provide landlords relief from past due rent.”

The ILRPP is being administered by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) on behalf of Will County. The first phase of the program was for landlord led applications and closed June 8.

IHDA is continuing to review applications as quickly as possible and is prioritizing requests for tenants who are unemployed and those with very-low household incomes. To date, $3,330,279.04 has been disbursed to landlords in Will County.

Tenants will be able to apply directly for relief online at www.ILRPP.IHDA.org beginning Monday, June 28. Applications will close July 18.

Applicants are eligible for up to 15 months of assistance. The grant can cover the past due rent from the previous 12 months and future rental assistance for the next three months, if deemed necessary. The maximum grant amount is $25,000. Payments are made directly to the landlord.

“The goal of this program is to help as many people as possible,” said Bertino-Tarrant. “It can be the lifeline to keeping families in homes and helping them get back on their feet.”
