Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant Will County Executive

I am honored to serve as your Will County Executive. As a lifelong resident of this great county, I have witnessed many changes as we have evolved from an ag-community to a major hub in the global distribution market.  I am dedicated to building upon this status but I am equally dedicated to maintaining the quality of life for the nearly 700,000 residents and thousands of businesses and organizations that call Will County home.

Please explore our website which is filled with important information about services and departments within the County Executive office as well as connections to other county officials’ websites.

Will County is diverse, vibrant and filled with hard-working people. We have room to grow and we look forward to a great future.

Agencies Monitoring Kankakee River Conditions as Ice and Weather Conditions Change

The Will County Emergency Management Agency, Wilmington Fire Protection District, and Wilmington ESDA, in coordination with the National Weather Service, are monitoring conditions on the Kankakee River as temperatures rise and ice conditions gradually change.

While no immediate impacts are anticipated, officials remind residents that river ice can be unpredictable, particularly during periods of warming. As a precaution, residents are advised to avoid going on the river or on the shores.

“Seasonal temperature changes can affect river and ice conditions,” said Deputy Chief Todd Friddle of the Wilmington Fire Protection District. “We encourage residents to use caution, stay informed, and follow guidance from local officials.”

The Will County Emergency Management Agency encourages residents near the river to take the following preparedness steps:

  • Have at least two ways to receive emergency alerts, such as the “Ready Will County” app and a NOAA Weather Radio.
  • Review and update household emergency plans.
  • Know what to do and where to go if conditions change rapidly.

Local agencies will continue to monitor and share information as conditions evolve. Residents are encouraged to rely on official sources for updates.
