Two group homes operated by Cornerstone Services, Inc.in Joliet have been selected for renovations by the Will County Community Development Division, the lead entity for the County’s HOME Consortium, and the City of Joliet, a member of this HOME Consortium. The HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), provides grants to state and local governments to create affordable housing for low-income households.

For residents who have lost employment due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are many job search services available in the Resource Room of the Workforce Center of Will County, located at 2400 Glenwood Avenue in Joliet.

“The Resource Room is an excellent place for our residents to find assistance in their job searches,” said Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant. “Many Will County employers use the Workforce Center to find qualified employees.”

The impact of the pandemic on social determinants of health, such as employment, income levels, and housing and food security has led to a growing concern regarding the long-term impact on mental health. These factors are also leading to new barriers for people already suffering from mental illness and substance use disorders. During the pandemic, four in 10 adults in the U.S. reported symptoms of anxiety or depression.

Building on the success of its recently completed small business grant program, Will County has taken steps to begin creating another program designed to provide financial assistance for small businesses.

The Will County Board approved the move during a special meeting on Friday, Feb. 26.

At the Feb. 18 meeting, the Will County Board approved three residents appointed by Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant to serve on county boards and commissions.

Moving Will County is a project focused on bringing the region together to find consensus on the balance of industrial, agricultural, natural and cultural resources, residential, and preservation areas.

The Will County Office Building, located at 304 N. Chicago Street in Joliet, will be closed on Fri. Feb. 12 and Mon. Feb. 15 in observance of Lincoln's Birthday and Presidents' Day. Normal business hours will resume on Tues. Feb. 16.
