Due to ongoing response activities with Hurricane Florence -- FEMA postpones test until Oct. 3

FEMA wants residents to know, “This is only a test.”

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) will be conducting a national alert test on cellular telephones at 1:18 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3. A test for the Emergency Alert System will also be conducted on television and radio at 1:20 p.m. on the same day. FEMA officials said the exercise is to test the compatibility of cellular telephones with its technology.

Joliet resident uses Narcan to save an overdose victim

Last Sunday, a Joliet resident, who recently participated in naloxone training offered by Will County, used these newly acquired skills to save a life.
“I was in a park in south Joliet when I noticed a parked car and a man lying on the ground next to it,” Jerry Reeves said. “There was also a woman standing there so I went over to offer help. The woman told me the man was drunk but I recognized the symptoms of an overdose.”

As the opioid epidemic continues to affect the entire nation, Will County is working to expand its harm reduction efforts by providing naloxone training to any organization or individual. Naloxone is a powerful antidote that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Residents invited to comment on DuPage River Feasibility Report

Study by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers address flood risks along river and tributaries in Will and DuPage Counties

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District released for public comment today the DuPage River draft integrated feasibility report and environmental assessment. The draft report provides a recommended plan to address flood risk on the DuPage River and its tributaries in the counties of DuPage and Will in Illinois.
