A Strategic Partnership agreement was recently signed by Will County Executive Larry Walsh, Gilbane Building Company, and the Chicago South Area Office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in recognition of the importance of providing a safe and healthy work environment for workers in the construction industry. This is especially significant as it relates to the Will County Courthouse Project in downtown Joliet, which is anticipated for completion in September 2020.

Today, Will County Executive presented his annual budget address which outlined his proposal for the 2019 fiscal year. Walsh reported the $565 million budget is balanced and meets all the county’s debt obligations, including OPEB (Other Post-Employment Benefits) and IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) contributions.

A special presentation was part of the September board meeting of the Will County Veterans’ Assistance Commission (VAC), held on Thursday, September 13. Denise Williams, a dedicated volunteer at the VAC, presented a Gold Star flag she received at the Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run Event to honor her only son, PFC Andrew Meari who was killed in action on November 1, 2010.

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) will be conducting a national alert test on cellular telephones at 1:18 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3. A test for the Emergency Alert System will also be conducted on television and radio at 1:20 p.m. on the same day. FEMA officials said the exercise is to test the compatibility of cellular telephones with its technology.

Last Sunday, a Joliet resident, who recently participated in naloxone training offered by Will County, used these newly acquired skills to save a life.
“I was in a park in south Joliet when I noticed a parked car and a man lying on the ground next to it,” Jerry Reeves said. “There was also a woman standing there so I went over to offer help. The woman told me the man was drunk but I recognized the symptoms of an overdose.”
