Advocacy & Support
The Veterans Assistance Commission provides personalized advocacy and support to help Veterans understand, apply for, and access the benefits and services they have earned.
Our approach to advocacy is based on a peer-to-peer model. We work with Veterans as a team, helping them understand the steps involved in applying for benefits and connecting with available resources.
Whether a Veteran is seeking assistance with a VA benefit, a state program, a local resource, or another available service, our staff helps Veterans understand their options and determine the next steps.
Our goal is to make the process easier to understand while ensuring Veterans have the information and support they need to move forward.
VA Benefits & Claims
Our Veteran Service Officers can assist Veterans with navigating the benefits process and understanding the documentation and steps needed to pursue eligible benefits.
Veterans may receive assistance with programs such as VA compensation, pension, health care, and educational benefits. Our staff can help Veterans understand the application process and connect them with the appropriate resources.
Connecting Veterans With Resources
Advocacy extends beyond VA benefits. We help Veterans identify resources and programs that may be available through local agencies, State of Illinois programs, and federal programs.
When additional services are needed, our staff can help connect Veterans and their families with appropriate community organizations and social service resources.
A Team Approach
We believe successful advocacy is a team effort. During appointments, our staff works with Veterans to review their needs, explain what actions may be required, and identify what to expect next.
As part of this process, Veterans receive a personalized folder containing their paperwork and important notes about their case. The folder helps Veterans keep their documents organized and provides clear information about what has been completed, what still needs to be done, and what they can expect next.
Veterans should leave their appointment with a clearer understanding of their benefits process and the next steps they need to take. Our goal is to ensure that Veterans have both the information and support they need to move forward with confidence.
