Eligibility Overview
Veterans may qualify for financial assistance if they meet income
guidelines, are residents of Will County, and have an eligible
discharge status. Our Veteran Service Officers can help determine
eligibility during your appointment.
Veterans Financial Assistance is available to eligible Will County
Veterans whose household income falls below
150% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Financial assistance is paid directly to approved vendors for housing,
utilities, food, transportation, and other essential needs.
Our goal is not only to provide temporary financial relief, but to help
Veterans move toward
long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
How the Program Works
Participating landlords, mortgage companies, and service providers work
directly with the Veterans Assistance Commission through our approved
vendor process. Each vendor receives a unique identification number so
payments can be processed efficiently and tracked accurately.
Veterans receiving financial assistance who are medically able to work
are also required to participate in our
Employment Assistance Program (EAP).
The program connects Veterans with employment specialists throughout
Will County.
Employment Partners
Veterans may be referred to one or more of the following community
partners:
-
Goodwill Workforce Connection
-
Will County Workforce Connection
-
Illinois Department of Employment Security
-
Department of Veteran Affairs – Compensated Work Therapy
-

-
Local employer Human Resource departments
Employment Assistance Program (EAP)
The EAP also hosts a monthly meeting at the VAC Boardroom where
community organizations introduce Veterans to employment opportunities,
training programs, and local resources.
By combining financial assistance with employment support and case
management, our program helps Veterans build lasting independence while
reducing future financial hardship.
